The Kingdom of This World, Alejo Carpentier, Knopf, 1957, 1st Edition, a Borzoi book, 150 pages +1. Translated from the Spanish by Harriet de Onis. Description: Book; Blue and pink design by Joseph Low with author's initials within a sunburst in center of the front and back boards. Top edge stained blue. Dust jacket; also designed by J. Low, showing Haitian tribal figure, back panel has eight blurbs for author praise. Front flap not price clipped, rear flap is author's bio (Cuban born, book was published just before Batista's fall and America's embargo). Condition: Book; Near fine. Bright tight and clean and free of any marks, spine is not sunned, top and bottom of spine lightly rubbed, as are the points, else fine. Dust jacket; Near fine. Bright and clean without marks and virtually no signs of sunning, there are a few stains on the back panel and the rear flap has a crease across the top, no tears or chips but the points are lightly rubbed, else fine. Also, please note there is a reflection in the photo along the lower edges of the book and jacket. This is light bouncing off the tablecloth and not a fault of the book.
